What I have to say upon the teaching of physics in high schools will fall into three divisions: 1st, the pupils; 2nd, the teachers; 3rd, the tools. Obviously the most important division of this subject is that which concerns the pupils: the schools are maintained for the benefit of the pupils; the teachers are there to serve the pupils; and the subjects in the course of study, text-books, apparatus, equipment, are all for the benefit of the pupils.
