Neurosensory function in the mental nerve region of 24 patients who had undergone intraoral inverted L ramus and sagittal splitting ramus osteotomy was assessed by evaluating light touch perception. Neuropathy was present in 67% of the 48 mental nerves examined. The incidence and recovery period of neuropathy on the side undergoing inverted L ramus osteotomy were similar to those on the side undergoing sagittal splitting ramus osteotomy. Our results suggest that dissection of the periosteum
