The extended crystal field model is developed in order to explain the unusual magnetic behavior of the titled Re(II) compounds, for which magnetic susceptibility data obtained on powder samples exhibit giant temperature independent paramagnetism and small low-temperature effective magnetic moments. The model is equivalent to the jj-coupling scheme appropriate for description of the 5d shell of a Re(II) ion in a crystal field, and perfectly reproduces the observed T χ vs. T dependences over a wide temperature range (2-300K).
