Surgical treatment for chronic otitis media was done on 261 ears during the 10 years and 6 months from 1978 to 1988, 105 ears for chronic suppurative otitis media, 126 ears for cholesteatoma, and 30 ears for the second time. Modified Wullstein III type opration was done in 21.2% but in cholesteatoma radical operation was done in 31.8% of the cases. Cholesteatoma recurred in 37.5% after tympanoplasty, and in 17.1% after radical operation. The frequent organisms were pseudomonas aeruginosa, sta.

Postoperatively, hearing results were improved in more than 50% and there was no change regardless of the follow up term.
