An Interview Dialogue System That Can Give Users a Better Impression by Engaging in Small Talk

This paper addresses the problem of how to build interview dialogue systems that users are willing to use. Existing interview dialogue systems are mainly focused on obtaining as much accurate information as possible from users, thus they just repeatedly ask questions. We propose a method for improving user impressions by engaging in small talk during interviews. Results of a user study using a text-based interview dialogue system for diet recording showed the proposed method gives a better impression to users than interview dialogues without small talk. This paper also reports our ongoing effort for improving utterance selection using the data collected in the user study.
