Synthesis of Microwave filters: a novel approach based on computer algebra

This paper presents an algebraic setting of the synthesis problem concerning coupled-resonators filters. The latter yields a rigorous understanding of the relationship between the coupling geometry and the corresponding set of re-alizable filtering characteristics as well as an algorithm, based on Groebner bases computations, which solves exhaustively the coupling matrix synthesis problem. Numerical results are presented for a 10 th order filter.
