... examine this topic, four Austrian newspapers were chosen that were reporting on the concentration camp Mauthausen between the Liberation 1945 and the fiftieth anniversary year. On the basis of a qualitative content analysis according to Mayring the gathered newspaper articles were analyzed and compared to the current state of research. The results of the conducted survey indicate a reflecting newspaper coverage concerning Austria's handling of the concentration camp Mauthausen, which barely encourages a self-reflection in terms of the atrocities in the Nazi-past. Therefore, this master thesis is not only relevant for historically interested people but also for all Austrian journalists and recipients.
