The biosynthesis of glycoconjugates requires the relevant glycosyltransferases and nucleotide sugars that can act as donors. Given the biological importance of posttranslational glycosylation, a facile, robust and cost-effective strategy for the synthesis of nucleotide sugars is highly desirable.
