Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/hepatits C virus (HCV) co-infection has a significant impact on liver-related morbidity and mortality. Among many other pathogenic mechanisms leading to accelerated hepatic disease are liver fibrosis and hepatocyte apoptosis.
