Willie Anku's rhythmic analyses relate the structure of drum patterns to recurring 12-or 16-beat rhythmic sets. Although Anku asserted that the distance between the start of these sets and a fixed time point was an important feature of a work, his rules for labelling these sets were not made explicit.
