Domain-specific modeling is an approach of using customized, domain-specific languages tailored for the domain as a basis for modeling the target system. The intent is to provide a means for domain experts to work with tools and a language closer to their domain knowledge, while abstracting away excess detail. This should provide more effective communication and ease the work done by providing a higher abstraction level. In the test automation domain, this means providing the domain experts

Despite the potential benefits and its applications, this viewpoint domain-specific modeling has received little consideration so far in test automation research. This paper reviews different approaches to applying concepts from domain specific modeling to test automation to provide a basis for further work in the area.
