The Objective of this study was to examine the impact of loss of a father in the Batman films of 1989-2012, with a focus on the most recent films from the years 2008-2012, directed by Christopher Nolan. This thesis addresses the question of how far the loss of a father impacts upon and is responsible for the development of Bruce Wayne into Batman and the ways in which this is depicted in the film adaptations. To enable this examination, the films are analyzed using selected theoretical models
