Large Eddy Simulations of Severe Convection Induced Turbulence
3rd AIAA Atmospheric Space Environments Conference
Convective storms can pose a serious risk to aviation operations since they are often accompanied by turbulence, heavy rain, hail, icing, lightning, strong winds, and poor visibility. They can cause major delays in air traffic due to the re-routing of flights, and by disrupting operations at the airports in the vicinity of the storm system. In this study, the Terminal Area Simulation System is used to simulate five different convective events ranging from a mesoscale convective system todoi:10.2514/6.2011-3201 fatcat:zx755qrbprfcxlbwpowe3sgsfe
