Time and Cosmology in Plato and the Platonic Tradition
Plato describes Timaeus as a rich, well-born expert in astronomy who has held high political offices in his natal Locri. There is no other record of him outside the Timaeus and Critias, which suggests that he is a Platonic invention. See Nails (1998, 293). 2 Timaeus calls him a "demiurge" dēmiurgos (Ti. 28a6), a "maker" poiētēs (Ti. 28c3), a "father" patēr (Ti. 28c3) and an "artificer" ho tektainomenos (Ti. 28c6).
