China Implements Rigorous Measures to Control the Importation of Solid Waste

The circular was developed with two goals in mind; firstly to prohibit hazardous 'garbage' and secondly to reinforce control over the importation of solid waste. Following the implementation of the new Circular, China has stopped importing several types of solid waste, including domestic waste plastics, unsorted waste paper, textile waste and vanadium slag. more » ... as waste plastic and paper as part of a campaign against 'foreign garbage'. The Circular also proclaimed that the Chinese government will adjust the import of the solid waste management catalog and introduce new legislation to control the importation of solid waste. There can be no doubt that the Circular has triggered a new process which will culminate in rigid and restrictive control of imported solid waste.
