From 1979 to 1989, 269 patients with spinal cord injury were managed by an aseptic intermittent catheterization program during the acute phase of their injuries at the Spinal Injuries Center. One hundred fifty one patients with incomplete cord lesion and 36 males with complete tetraplegia were managed by program I, which protects the shocked bladder from overdistension.
