The strata distributed in the northeastern part of the Chichibu Basin represent a part of the lower part of the Chichibu Neogene rocks within the Basin in the Kanto Mountains. These rocks overlie unconfornlably pre − NeQgene basement rocks ( Chichibu Paleozoic and Mesozolc strata and At〔,kura Fo atiDnl along a part of its western margin , but are largely in reverse fault contact with the Sambagawa metamorphic rocks al 〔 ) ng its eastern margin
