Triaxial nuclear shapes at high angular momentum

High-angular-momentum states in the deformed nucleus 186 Os have been studied following fusionevaporation reactions with a radioactive 14 C beam. A high-K t-band has been observed and its role in the first crossing of the ground-state band established. The lack of isomerism of the identified Iу18 multi-quasiparticle yrast states is presented as new evidence for triaxial shapes. ͓S0556-2813͑99͒50205-7͔ PACS number͑s͒: 21.10.
