The need to renovate old wooden ceilings, often resulting from usage changes, has brought civil engineers to develop wood-concrete composite systems. The upgrading of existing ceilings and the trend to enlarge ceiling spans by using wood-concrete composite structures in new buildings made great progress in recent years. The connection between the both partial cross-sections is ensured by fastener in the composite material joint.Nowadays there are numerous types of fasteners offered for structural production of wood-concrete composite ceilings on the market. These also as shear connectors known fasteners can be bar-shaped, for example as sheet metal strips, or often they have a special form fitted shape made of steel. This thesis is about the usage of the most common types of fasteners and their failure mechanisms.Currently a uniform standardized design of wood-concrete composite floors is not available, but the admission of this issue as a separate chapter of the EC5 standard is already on the way. The lack of standardization leads sometimes to unclear decisions of design application regarding design options and design rules.The thesis shows which calculation methods are currently used, how the structural models are created and how the design is carried out. It is also discussed which methods are used in the related section of the future EC5. It is also shown which effect the different creep attitude of both materials has on the loadbearing and deformation behavior,at which age of the structure the calculations should be made and information about modification and deformation coefficients of the fasteners is provided.This thesis deals with the gamma method, the shear analogy procedure and the frameworkmodel.
