Preface King Vidor's The Big Parade, The Crowd, and Hallelujah have traditionally loomed large in histories of film art; his Our Daily Bread and The Fountainhead in histories of film politics; his Duel in the Sun in histories of film commerce. Many moviegoers find less-celebrated Vidor films among their most vivid memories-from The Champ to Ruby Gentry.
