Resumo O objetivo desse estudo foi verificar os estilos comunicativos maternos dirigidos a meninos e meninas, especialmente os diretivos, num contexto de brinquedo livre. Os estilos comunicativos das mães e das crianças foram analisados a partir da perspectiva da interação social, que reconhece a importância do input materno para o desenvolvimento da linguagem infantil. As transcrições das sessões foram realizadas seguindo as diretrizes do Codes for Human Analysis of Transcripts (CHAT) que compõe o sistema computacional Child Language Data Exchange System (CHILDES). A aplicação do teste Mann-Whitney revelou que foram dirigidos mais diretivos maternos ao grupo de meninos, enquanto que as solicitações maternas foram dirigidas mais ao grupo de meninas. The Speech Directed to Boys and Girls: A Study on Maternal Input and their Variations Abstract The aim of this study was to verify the maternal communicative styles directed to boys and girls, especially the directive one, in a free-play situation. The mothers and the childrens communicative styles were based on the social interaction perspective, which recognizes the importance of maternal input to the development of the infants is language. In this study there were sixteen mother-child dyads equally distributed in terms of gender. The dyads were recorded in natural environment in a freeplay situation. The transcriptions of the sessions were carried out following the norms of the Codes of Human Analysis of Transcripts (CHAT) that composes the computational system Child Language Data Exchange System (CHILDES). Mann-Whitney test showed that mothers used more directives in the group of boys, while maternal request was more used in the group of girls. These results were discussed considering childrens linguistic level of development and the interactive contexts in which the utterances appeared.
