SEthics 2021 Welcome Message

2021 2021 IEEE/ACM 2nd International Workshop on Ethics in Software Engineering Research and Practice (SEthics)
Welcome to the second International Workshop on Ethics in Software Engineering Research and Practice (SEthics), held online on June 4, 2021, in conjunction with IEEE/ACM ICSE 2021. The Software Engineering Code of Ethics asks professionals to ensure software that for example, does not diminish the quality of life, threaten privacy or harm the environment. Software Engineering inevitably involves dealing with ethical questions about the role of human values in its professional practice and

It is also important to ensure that the involvement of human subjects in software engineering activities, e.g. requirements elicitation and testing, and also research is ethical. In the SEthics 2021 workshop, we explore the intersection of ethics, human values, and software engineering. Discussions aim to review the current status of the field, the work in progress and the emerging trends and research directions. The program has four sessions. The first session features a keynote by Prof. Bernd Stahl, who is the lead of the Centre for Computing and Social Responsibility (CCSR) in Demontfort University, UK. The second and third sessions have presentations of six accepted papers about Ethical lapses, measurements, and considerations in SE and AI practices, research, and education. The fourth session consists of a working group activity of participants plus a panel with three experts discussing the results of group discussion in the area of Ethics in software engineering research and practice. The SEthics 2021 organizers would like to thank the program committee members for their time and effort in providing constructive and detailed reviews.
