Objective of the study was prevalence of overweight and obesity in patients with hypertension and selected cardio-vascular disease risk factors. Material and methods This was a retrospective study of 335 adult patients with diagnosed hypertension hospitalized in the first half of 2011 in the Department of In-terventional Cardiology of The Medical University of Bialystok Clinical Hospital. Conclusions Patients with diagnosed hypertension and overweight or obesity were significantly younger compared to those with hypertension and normal body weight indicating the need for greater prevention in this group of patients. Patients with hypertension and abnormal body weight suffer more often from diabetes and dyslipide-mia, and had greater left ventricular mass compared to patients with normal weight. During the hospitalization patients with normal body weight achieved better reduction of systolic blood pressure.
