This paper examines the situation of relief activities by students for the area affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake. We surveyed 314 sample students at three universities in the Kanto and Kansai areas for the research purposes. Although many students donated money to help suffering people, more than 70% of those did not know how the money they donated was used. Very few students actually went to the disaster area to do volunteer activities(9.6%) . By using a binary and multinomial

We discovered that students with a greater tendency to be involved in volunteer activities were those who go to universities in the Kansai area rather than the Kanto area, those who are not busy in everyday life and those who are involved in volunteer activities on a continuing basis. Due to the limited number of samples, it is obvious that our study has some limitations to discover certain facts, but these points indicate some ways to get college students to join support activities in disaster areas. From these practical phases, we consider it is necessary to further examine these facts.
