Some Tribological Aspects of An Al-SiC Composite Under Axisymmetric Compression
1997
Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Materials
Single solid cylinders as well as twin-disks of Al-SiC metal matrix composites were compressed axisymmethcally within flat-faced parallel platens, using dry friction and solid lubricants at the workpiece-platen interfaces. In all cases the solid lubricant significantly reduces barreling of the cylinders and the twin-disks, as well as minimizes the specific forming energy, that is, the energy required to deform plastically unit volume of the workpiece material. The experimental results agree fairly well with a proposed model.
