Experimental daytime jigging operations were conducted to examine the effect of underwater fishing light for large-size neon flying squid (>30cm mantle length) in the North Pacific Ocean with 3 research vessels. Using underwater fishing lights set at a depth of 180m and 4 jig-lines operated within a depth of 300m by each R/V, only the target species was caught in the operation. The condi tion of switching the underwater fishing light on and off was assigned systematically to each R/V and time
