It was also expected to act as a moderator on the indirect effect between job-related learning demands and said outcomes. To be able to access day-to-day variation, an online diary study was conducted. On five workdays, 93 employees filled in short questionnaires at three different times a day. Results showed that job- related learning demands had a positive impact on learning. Moreover, challenge appraisal was a positive mediator between job-related learning demands and the outcomes work enjoyment, learning and vitality. In contrast, hindrance appraisal mediated a negative relationship between job-related learning demands and work enjoyment as well as vitality. When job-related learning demands were experienced as inappropriate, i. e. as too high or too low, hindrance appraisal occurred, causing work enjoyment and vitality to decrease as a consequence.
