The investment made in training and development programmes is often viewed as an indicator of modernization, adaptability and sustenance of an organization by majority of stakeholders. However, Organizations must objectively evaluate the financial impact of approving, continuing or discontinuing a particular training and development programme. It is very important to assess the financial feasibility and financial implication of implementing a particular programme based on its costs and benefits

An attempt has been made in this paper to highlight the transition in the approach followed to evaluate a training and development programme, reasons behind the transition, factors inhibiting this transition which calls for an extra mile to go before concluding that the programme actually contributed to the financial success of the organization.
