DEFINITION OF AMINE OXIDASES According to Zeller 1 • 2 , the oxidative deamination of amines consists in the substitution of carbonyl groups for aliphatic amino groups. The enzymes which catalyse this oxidative deamination are usually called amine oxidases or dehydrogenases. The amine oxidases are divided in two main groups: the first group consisting ofthose which attack a-methylamines (e.g. amphetamine), and the second group of those which do not do so.
