Dental caries is a public health concern worldwide for which Streptococcus mutans has been reported Known as the potential etiology of infection. In recent years, nanotechnology has applied to Creation of novel material properties. The research was studying a comparison between the effect of aqueous and alcoholic clove extracts and zinc oxide nanoparticles on S. mutans isolated from tooth decay(caries), because this topic is very important, since cloves are commonly used in alternative

In this research, Different ZnO NPs , and clove extract concentrations were studied as its anti-bacterial effects on S. mutans isolates from dental caries cases. 31 S. mutans isolates were obtained, which is equivalent to 20.52% of the total number 151 isolates . This nanomaterial was chosen because it has a high affinity for human cells and does not cause harm compared to other nanoparticles. The well diffusion method and the MIC experiment were conducted, and the results were good, as in the well diffusion method the efficacy expanded with increasing the concentration of ZnO NPs , and clove extract. In the MIC experiment of ZnONPs , it was observed that MIC, meaning that the MIC of ZnO NPs towards S. mutans equals 0. 312 mg / ml and in the MIC experiment of alcoholic and aqueous extract of clove , it was observed that MIC in the third and fourth tube, meaning that the MIC of alcoholic and aqueous extract of clove towards streptococcus mutans equals 25 mg / ml ,12.5mg/ml respectively . Conclusion; nanoparticles of zinc oxide and alcove extract have an excellent anti-bacterial benefit., and the effectiveness of these particles increases by increasing the solution concentration that contains the nanoparticles.
