The small molecule biotin and the homotetrameric protein streptavidin (SA) form a stable and robust complex that plays a pivotal role in many biotechnological and medical applications. In particular, the biotin-streptavidin linkage is frequently used in single molecule force spectroscopy (SMFS) experiments.
