THE ROLE OF MARITIME ENGLISH IN THE CURRENT GEO-POLITICAL CONTEXT

For the present article, I propose to analyse some of the implications of the 2010 Manila Amendments to the STCW Convention and Code, as well as their application and enforcement, and comment upon the changes made, while focusing on how these changes affect the average Romanian seafarer. more » ... wake of President Trump's refusal to sign the Trans-Pacific Partnership, many industries have had to rethink their businesses and shipping may soon follow. Even though the role of the English language in the shipping industry does not seem to change for the moment, it is worth to take a moment to analyse the impact of these changes, in a world where English is not the official language of any of the countries of the European Union.
