<div>Photocatalytically active boron oxynitride quantum dots (BNO QDs) were produced <i>via </i>a bottom-up hydrothermal synthesis. This is the first demonstration of BN-based quantum dots being employed as photocatalysts. The material facilitates CO<sub>2</sub> photoreduction, with evolution rates and quantum efficiencies exceeding those for P25 TiO<sub>2,</sub> the benchmark catalyst in the field.<br></div>
