Optimal stopping theory is developed to achieve a good trade-off between decision performance and decision efforts such as the consumed decision time. In this paper, the optimal stopping theory is applied to fast mode decision for multiview video coding in order to reduce the tremendous encoding computational complexity, with the benefit of theoretical decision-making expectation and predictable decision performance.
