The Ries and Steinheim Impact about 15 Ma aga had no palaeontologically verifiable effect on the composition of the fauna and the flora in Southern Germany. The destruction was only of local importance. The ecosystem was quickly, about 100 years later, reconstituted by the same rich subtropical vegetation and vertebrates. The fluviatile ecosystem of the "Upper Freshwater Molasse" accelerated the re-colonization. This fast reorganization of the ecotopes was particularly influenced by fluviatile drift.
