Variability of genes involved in lipid metabolism and their effect on milk yield, composition and coagulation traits in Sarda sheep

Variability of nine genes involved in lipid metabolism was assessed in 1,112 Sarda breed ewes, in order to evaluate their effect on milk yield, composition and traditional and derived coagulation parameters. Linkage disequilibrium (LD) was observed on chromosome OAR:14, with a LD block in the LCAT (Lecithin-Cholesterol Acyltransferase) gene. SNP rs405992067 at the ACACA gene (Acetyl-CoA Carboxylase 1 alpha), showed the lowest SCS and the shortest rennet coagulation time. Two SNPs, namely
more » ... 724C>G at LCAT and rs119102737 at LIPE (encoding the hormone-sensitive lipase) were associated with daily milk yield. The information provided here is new and might be useful in future research on lipogenic genes and cheese making properties, in dairy sheep breeding.
