Many new demands in the construction industry encourage increased automation of design and construction, but realizing the opportunity presents many management challenges. One of the greatest is awareness of potential advantages for the firm. The purpose of this paper is to describe the possible competitive advantages from advanced technologies for design and construction automation and to identify management challenges of acquiring and implementing these technologies. The conclusions highlight a need for vision concerning how automation will change constructed products, processes, and owner's requirements.
