... o falando dentro dos estudos de política internacional, mas para o qual nunca foi dada a importância de conceituação analítica. Dessa forma, examinaremos, através da obra supracitada, bem como de artigos e do livro igualmente importante "Man, the state, and war", do mesmo autor, o papel do Estado na política internacional de acordo com cada uma das teorias descritas pelo autor: as "reducionistas", baseadas no comportamento humano e na organização do Estado (primeira e segunda imagens de análise, respectivamente), e nas "sistêmicas", baseadas no conceito do sistema internacional, sendo este formado pela "estrutura" e pela "interação das unidades políticas". Assim, pretende-se, a título de conclusão, responder a uma pergunta muito frequente nos estudos de política e relações internacionais: seria o Estado o único ator das relações internacionais? Abstract: The main purpose of this paper is the analysis of the role of the State as a unity in Kenneth Waltz's work "Theory of International Politics". This work is deeply relevant in the study of international realtions, being one of the main parts if the third debate of the discipline, due to the methodology employed by the author. In Waltz's work, who divides international politics theories into the "reductionist" ones and the "systemic" ones, there is the isolation of the concept of "structure", long-time present in the studies of international politics, but for which it was never given the importance of analytical conceptualization. So being, it will be examined, in the named work, in articles and the equally important "Man, the state, and war", the role of the state in international politics, according to each of the theories described by the author: "reductionist" ones, based on human behaviour and state organization (first and second images, respectively); and in the "systemic" ones, based on the concept of international system, which is formed by an "structure" and its "interacting units".
