In the design of shield tunnels,one of the most difficult questions is to estimate the load properly. The empirical method is often used. But for non-circular tunnels there is little known on it. This paper discusses the ground measure ments and analysis on non-circular shallow shield tunnelling. The shield tunnel is a common usage tunnel which has a kind of rectangular section of 7.65m vertically and 5.1m horigontally long.The overburden is about 10m and geology is mostly alluvial and dluvial
more » ... and. The water and earth pressure on the tunnel is measured and compared with the value calculated by Terzaghi's formula . The ground displacements around the tunnel is also measuied and compared with th resules of FEM analysis.
