The MSMEs contributes extensively to the country's manufacturing output, employment and exports and is accredited with generating the highest employment growth as well as accounting for a major share of industrial production and exports. MSMEs comprise more than 80 per cent of total enterprises in most of the economies. Indian Financial Institutions and the Government have a crucial contribution in development and promotion of MSME sector role played by credit lending institutions is remarkable. Paper also aims to evaluate opportunities and challenges in the sector for raising funds through financial institutions which should be considered by policy makers for better results.
