The synergistic effect has been studied in the presence of a dicarboxylic acid inhibitor with or without bivalent cation like zinc ions. A protective film has been formed on the carbon steel surface in aqueous solution using a synergistic combination of an environmentally friendly dicarboxylic acid (thiomalic acid) and zinc ions. The corrosion inhibition effect of thiomalic acid with zinc ions on carbon steel has been carried out by weightloss studies and electrochemical techniques.
