BIOTECHNOLOGY FOR PRODUCTION OF GLUCOMANNAN BY ANTARCTIC YEAST

The basic characteristics of a bioprocess for glucomannan production realizable at technical scale in a bioreactor 0.3 m 3 are reviewed. The prospective design, biokinetics, fluid dynamics, mass transfer at reactive conditions and possible production difficulties, as well as expected product properties and applications are discussed. The results could be used in development of an industrial process aimed at commercial cosmetic product.
