reply to obvious needs of bibliographically untrained readers. More than 500 entries (fifty pages) are in the chronological check-list of his published writings. The British Museum catalogs give some 125 Pollard entries, and the Library of Congress allows him 165 in its pre-1956 imprints catalog. His catalogs and bibliographies are excellent and highly effective tools. What is known and practiced in bibliography today is heavily indebted to him, so these essays are certainly a fitting selection as the second title in
