In this paper, data plane alternatives for optical performance monitoring are presented as enablers to address the key challenges in disaggregated optical networks. In fact, a key element of the disaggregated networks is optical performance monitoring that is expected to deliver the feedback needed by the control plane to guarantee end-to-end quality of transmission and quality of service.
