HR 4912 - A variable of the old-disk population
1983
Publications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific
HR 4912 is a luminous F-type star lying at a galactic latitude of +36°; it is also a low-amplitude variable with a 44-to 68-day period. We show that HR 4912 has a moderately low iron content: [Fe/H] = -1.2, implying that it derives from the old-disk population. The N/C ratio is large, indicating mixing of CNO-cycled material to the surface. Our derived gravity implies an absolute magnitude M v ~ -4. HR 4912 is probably evolving to the left off the asymptotic giant branch in the H-R diagram; we suggest that it is an SRd-type variable.
