An experimen t is described in which third and fifth graders and adults ei ther read or sea rched throug h paragrap hs of tex t tha t var ied either the sen tence or word orien tation . Indiv idu al words and/ or sen tences were printed in a manner from left-to-right or from right-to-left . The aim of the study was to assess th e ex ten t to which subjec ts are able to prescreen information in the periphery under different task conditions .
