By exploring the Barton Springs spillway and Barton Springs Pool in Austin, Texas, this master's report seeks to understand the value of unplanned social spaces. Between planned, programmed, and designed urban spaces, there are spaces that are used in unplanned ways. Normative planning practices are informed by "placemaking" strategies with the goal to create or make a place.
