Platelets have a predominant role in the pathogenesis of Acute Coronary Syndromes (ACS). It is believed that the mean platelet size, evaluated by the mean platelet volume (MPV), is a sensitive indicator of platelet reactivity and trombogenicity potential. Several studies have found associations between the MPV and the ACS or the occurrence of Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI).
