A congenital diaphragmatic hernia is a life threatening condition. It causes pulmonary hypertension with right to left shunting that contributes to severe hypoxemia in neonates. A particulary poor prognosis is predicted if a congenital diaphragmatic hernia is associated with cardiac deformities and pulmonary hypoplasia.
