RESUmO Este texto se ocupa não só em conferir sob quais termos Pitágoras e Platão conceberam a chamada transmigração das almas, como também em averiguar o que de fato entenderam por alma (por psychê). Quanto a este segundo aspecto, o que efetivamente está posto em questão não é o conceito alma (psychê) em sentido estrito do termo, e sim como, sob os termos da palingênese e/ou da metempsicose, tal conceito foi por eles concebido e dotado de significação. AbSTRACT This paper is concerned with checking the terms with which Pythagoras and Plato conceived the notion of transmigration of souls, as well as ascertaining what they actually understood by soul (psychê). Regarding the latter, what is effectively in question is not the concept of soul (psychê) in a narrow sense, but how, under the notions of palingenesis and/or metempsychosis, they conceived such a concept and endowed it with meaning.
